What is AddictionEd.org?
AddictionEd.org is an online directory of addiction-related distance education
opportunities from around the world. Course providers submit information about
their courses, and each provider that meets a set of specific guidelines
designated by the ATTC Network can post information about their courses and
programs on the site. Courses are available in a number of topic areas.
Does AddictionEd.org offer trainings?
No, AddictionEd.org is not a course provider. The Web site is simply a directory
of courses provided by other organizations, institutions and agencies.
Can I register for a course on the AddictionEd.org Web site?
You can’t register for a class directly from the AddictionEd.org Web site. Once
you have decided on a course, use the link in the course description to register
from the course provider’s Web site.
Will I receive a quality educational experience from a class listed on
AddictionEd.org?
The ATTC neither endorses nor is responsible for specific courses listed.
However, we review every course provider and course posted on AddictionEd.org.
By designating specific criteria for course providers to meet, we hope to ensure
that each participant will benefit from their online learning experience.
What is distance education?
AddictionEd.org defines distance education as a formal learning activity, which
occurs when students and their instructor are separated by geographic distance
or time. Distance learning programs often utilize technologies such as
computers, telephones, televisions, e-mail, interactive videoconferencing or
videotapes to provide students and teachers avenues to communicate and interact.
What is online learning?
Online learning is defined as any form of learning that utilizes a cyber network
for delivery, interaction or facilitation. The network could be the Internet, a
school or college LAN (local-area network) or even a corporate WAN (wide-area
network). Learning can take place as part of a class or individually.
How do I know if I am suited for distance education?
Complete an online survey at e-Learners.com to assess your readiness for online
learning or distance education.
How many hours are required to complete a distance education course?
The time requirements of distance education programs differ based on a number of
factors: the complexity and duration of the course, the course provider’s
requirements, and each participant’s motivations for taking the course. Before
registering for a course, examine how much time may be required and how much
time you have to commit.
What type of technology do I need to take a distance education course?
Most online education providers use the Internet, e-mail and online discussion
technologies to deliver course content and promote student-teacher interaction.
However, providers may differ in their technological requirements. Check with
the course provider of the course you are interested in taking for a list of the
specific technology they use.
Will my state’s licensing/certification board accept continuing education
credits from a distance education course?
Each state is different. Contact your licensing/certification board prior to
enrolling in a course to ensure that they will accept the CEU’s as part of your
continuing education requirements.
For more certification information, please see our certification information.
What is the difference between asynchronous and synchronous learning?
Asynchronous learning means that learning can take place at any location and at
any time. Synchronous learning is delivered in real time through advanced
technology.
