Enhancing Cultural Appropriateness
The ATTC Network is improving addiction treatment by identifying standards of culturally appropriate practice and then generating ways for these to be adopted. Acknowledging the significant diversity among treatment service users and providers, the Network places substantial emphasis on implementing programs and practices which are customized to ensure addiction treatment that is respectful of individual cultures and circumstances.

Developing & Disseminating Tools
The ATTC Network is improving addiction treatment by putting insights into action and maximizing the flow of knowledge to the addiction treatment workforce. The Network creates and distributes a wealth of information in a variety of forms including continuing education and academic courses, specialized publications, presentations and curriculum enhancements. Developed primarily for regional and national audiences, these tools also have international impact when published on the World Wide Web.

HIGHLIGHT
The Addiction Counseling Competencies: Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes of Professional Practice – CSAT Technical Assistance Publication #21 lists the 123 competencies necessary for proficient practice. The Competencies was written by the ATTC Network and has made a significant contribution to the development of professional standards for treatment practitioners around the nation. It is now a benchmark by which curricula are developed and professional standards are measured.

Building a Better Workforce
The ATTC Network is improving addiction treatment by strengthening the
knowledge, skills and attitudes of substance abuse treatment practitioners. The Network is committed to improving the competency of current and future practitioners primarily by creating and expanding continuing education and university coursework, developing academic programs, increasing clinical placements and setting educational standards. Additionally, the Network advocates for and carries out initiatives that enhance the addiction treatment profession and make it attractive to today’s best and brightest professionals.

Advancing Knowledge Adoption
The ATTC Network is improving addiction treatment by helping treatment professionals not only access and understand but also adopt the most innovative and effective treatment strategies. The Network keeps pace with the latest science on addiction and then translates it so that it can be understood and applied by the treatment workforce. The Network uses well established technology transfer strategies to ensure that these science innovations are adopted into practice.
HIGHLIGHT
The Change Book: A Blueprint for Technology Transfer was written by the ATTC Network to assist the treatment workforce in not only applying but ultimately adopting new science into treatment services. This book outlines a practical approach to using the principles, steps, strategies and activities for successful technology transfer.

Ongoing Assessment & Improvement
The ATTC Network is improving addiction treatment by fostering a continuous state of self-assessment to measure the efficacy and success of our work. By evaluating impact and documenting outcomes, the Network can better understand the effects of its efforts and is therefore able to provide valuable insights for future areas of exploration in the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders.

Forging Partnerships
The ATTC Network is improving addiction treatment by initiating partnerships and collaborative relationships that can maximize the effectiveness of the addiction treatment field. These joint efforts allow the Network to draw on the diverse expertise of related groups to create opportunities for positive systems change and the development of key resources for the field. Regular interaction among multiple healthcare disciplines is part of the Network's strategy in promoting the widespread use of evidence-based practices throughout the addiction workforce.
